Preparing the nursery during pregnancy is an exciting step for expectant parents. It's the perfect time to set up the cozy nest that will welcome your newborn. Starting early allows you to carefully choose each element, from the wall paint to furniture and decorative accessories. It's also an opportunity to ensure the room is ready and safe for baby's arrival, avoiding any last-minute stress. Thinking about the space in a functional and comfortable way is crucial to create an environment conducive to your child's sleep and awakening.
To create a nursery that's functional, safe, and welcoming, here are the must-have pieces:
What makes a cot safe? It's quite straightforward. European safety guidelines ensure whether a baby cot is safe or not. When a cot is developed in accordance with these standards, you can be sure it's 100% safe for your baby. Manufacturers must adhere to these guidelines, which is why at Petite Amélie, we only work with manufacturers that respect these directives for our nurseries. These guidelines include instructions on the cot's stability and the durability of the structure. A cot must be sturdy, capable of accommodating siblings. For cribs and barred cots, the bars must never be spaced more than 6 cm apart, and the side guards should be at least 60 cm high. Other important safety aspects include packaging, labeling, and the coatings and finishes used.
The nursery transcends its functionality to become a space of creativity and personal expression, shaped by current trends. Among these, the Japandi style stands out, blending Scandinavian minimalism with Japanese aesthetics, alongside the use of calming colours like oat and natural materials such as raw wood. Convertible cots, growing with the child, are highly valued for their durability and adaptability. Decorative themes range from modern jungle and mysterious forest to fairy tale fantasies, not to mention the elegant simplicity of an all-white nursery. These settings foster baby's awakening and imagination, incorporating educational elements such as mobiles and playmats, adding a playful and formative dimension to the space. Explore our trends on our blog here.
Decorating the nursery is an opportunity to create a soft and enchanting world. Pastel colours, gentle lighting, plush rugs, and cuddly toys add warmth and comfort. Wall stickers, framed illustrations or photographs, and shelves to display books or decorative toys are simple ways to personalize the space. Don't forget curtains or blinds to soften the light and promote your little one's sleep. Let your imagination run free while keeping baby's safety and wellbeing in mind.
